Product Range

Cast Resin Distribution Transformers

TMC Transformers manufactures cast resin standard distribution transformers suitable for both indoor and outdoor installation; both standard and reduced losses resulting in high-efficient dry type transformers, from 50 kVA to 25000 kVA with system voltages up to 52 kV.

We offer both aluminium and copper-wound solutionas each available with Class F (155) or Class H (180) insulation systems. TMC offer solutions for Indoor and outdoor installations.

TMC products are designed and manufactured to offer long term reliability, minimum maintenance and in accordance with all national and international standards.

The ability to withstand short circuit forces is checked with FEA software.

Combination of Cast Resin and Foil winding offers the ultimate in terms of dielectric performance and short circuit withstand.

Cast Resin Special Transformers

At TMC we use or vast experience and expertise to work with our customers to develop specialist solutions, designed specifically to suit their requirements – up to a power rating of 25MVA at a system voltage of 52kV for a wide variety of applications, across a multitude of sectors.

TMC draws on its considerable know-how to assess the ability of products to withstand short-circuit forces (FEA analysis) and manage:

  • very high currents (> 30kA)

  • cooling - not only with natural or forced air, but also with direct or indirect water

  • installations in particularly polluted or outdoor environments by studying and developing suitable solutions

  • the combination of epoxy resin and foil winding ensures the ultimate in dielectric performance and short-circuit resistance

  • aluminium or copper winding

  • available in Class ‘F’ (155°C) or Class ‘H’ (180°C) resin systems

  • air cooling channels included in the coil for better thermal efficiency at power ratings greater than 5 MVA.

VPI Medium Voltage Transformers

TMC produces medium-voltage VPI distribution transformers and special transformers with powers up to 25 MVA and voltages up to class 36-70/170 kV. These products are typically required in thermal class 180°C or 220°C.

The insulating material is composed of aramid materials applied with double VPI cycles which perform well at maximum working temperatures and in the event of extreme thermal overloads.

The ability to withstand short-circuit forces is verified with FEA software.

The thermal class of the resin is the same as that of the insulating materials.

VPI Low Voltage Transformers

TMC produces special and distribution VPI transformers with normal or reduced losses and according to customer specifications, up to 10 MVA and with insulation class up to 1.1 kV.

We design, manufacture, and test our machines according to all international standards: IEC, IEEE, CSA, UL, ANSI, NEMA, NRCan.

VPI transformers main feature:

  • aluminium or copper windings

  • class F (155°C) or class H (180°C) resin systems

  • compatibility with both indoor and outdoor installations.

The most common cooling technologies are based on air, either natural or forced, and liquid, either direct or indirect, or with an AFWF heat exchanger.

In addition, the ability to withstand short-circuit forces is verified with FEA software.

DEMANDING APPLICATIONS

Data centers are a highly demanding application. Standard designs are not robust enough to cope with such demanding power systems. Non-linear switch mode power supplies generate harmonic currents (up to K20 factor is possible) which can cause transformers to overheat and deteriorate the insulation system. Several and sudden switching operations are also challenging factors for the design of transformers for data centers. Due to special designs of data centers, with high density of equipment installed in the available space, outages as a result of premature equipment failure can be extremely costly. For this reason, it is important to ensure functionality and reliability of the transformers.

TMC TRANSFORMERS ULTIMATE SOLUTIONS

The H-ART dry type transformer technology, developed by TMC Transformers SpA, is ideal for this application: an upgraded class H insulation system that is based on advanced resin technology combined with lower temperature rise, able to improve the performance of the transformer and the lifetime expectancy. This technology was developed specifically to cope with harmonic content, offer superior mechanical, thermal and dielectric strength and be highly efficient in operation. The space constraints within a data center environment also makes the compact design of TMC Transformers the perfect solution.

COMPLEMENTING THE PORTFOLIO

TMC Transformers SpA completes the portfolio for data centers with isolation dry type transformers. Low voltage transformers with designs able to cope with harmonic distortion equivalent up to K20 factor. TMC’s portfolio includes a variety of accessories such as snubbers (R-C filters), surge arresters with different configuration and pre-mag systems to mitigate the current and voltage transients. Pads or dumpers can be provided to mitigate the airborne noise and structure borne noise. All transformers are designed according to international standards with rigorous criteria, validating the designs through finite element analysis in both the electrical and mechanical parts.
